Private Pilot License:

FAA Requirements:

Minimum 40 hours total flight time.

    (National average is 50-70 hours)

 

Minimum 20 hours of training with an instructor that must

      include:

          > 3 hours of cross-country flight training.

         > 3 hours of night flight training with 10 "full stop"

                   take-off and landings.

          >100 nautical mile night cross-country flight.

          > 3 hours simulated instrument flying.

                  

Minimum 10 hours of solo flight time that must include:

          > 3 solo take-off's and landing to a "full stop" at a   

                   controlled airport.

          > 5 hours of cross-country flying.

          > 150 nautical mile cross-country flight.

Training Sequence:

-Aircraft control training

-Pre-solo training

-Solo

-FAA required maneuvers training

-Cross-country flying

-Getting ready for the FAA Written Exam

-Instrument and Night flying

-150 nautical mile cross-counrty solo flight

-Checkride (Final Exam for License)

Costs:

Aircraft: Between $89-$135 per hour for the basic trainers.

 

Instructor: Flat rate of $60 per hour

 

Total estimated costs:  $7500.00

 

Timeframe: Based on an average 2 training sessions per week, expect to complete the course in 8 months.  However, it   

                     can be completed much sooner with more frequent training flights and dilligent study on the students part. 

                     Also, the more frequent the flying the more there is possibility of saving money by keeping your learning fresh.  

Instrument Rating:

FAA Requirements:

Logged 50 hours of cross-country, pilot-in-command time.

 

Logged 40 hours of simulated or actual instrument flight

          >15 hours of which must be with an Authorized

                Instructor.

          >20 hours of which can be logged in an approved

                Flight Training Device (FTD)/Simulator.

 

250 nautical mile cross-country flight under while on an

      Instrument Flight Plan.

 

3 hours with an Authorized Instructor preparing for the

      Checkride within the preceding 2 calendar months.

-Radio and Advanced GPS training

-Instrument Charts and Advanced Weather training

-Holding patterns, tracking radials and DMC arcs

-Instrument approaches

-Cross-country flying

-Regulations

-Checkride (Final Exam)

      >100 hours in a powered aircraft

          >50 hours of that 100 must be in an airplane

 

Logged 100 hours of Pilot-in-Command time

20 hours of training (ground and flight)

      >10 hours of Instrument training

      >10 hour of instruction in a Complex aircraft

 

100 nautical mile cross-country day flight

 

100 nautical mile cross-country night flight

 

10 hours of Solo flight time or 10 hours w/ an instructor

      working on commercial level flight maneuvers.

 

300 nautical mile cross-country flight at least 250 nm from

      departure airport.

 

5 hours of night flying w/ 10 take-off's and landings

 

3 hours of instruction in preparation of the Checkride
